Getting Started

Welcome to spoon_studies, a community for students and academics with disabilities. Before I open up the comm for posting, I'd like to get a few things out of the way.

The big, important thing is that I want members' and potential members' input regarding community rules and posting policy.

- Do we want any restrictions on post content? For example, requiring that potential triggers be behind cuts or forbidding ableist or other discriminatory language.

- Do we want moderated posting, members-only commenting, or a specific default privacy setting?

And a couple of other things.

- Is anyone interested in being co-mod? I'd prefer someone with experience, since I haven't modded a comm before.

- How can I make the community as user-friendly and accessible as possible?

I would agree with triggers behind cuts and rules against ableist/discriminatory language. You are more than welcome to look at the rules for pcos_support (they're in the profile) and get any inspiration from them that you can.

I would like members-only commenting, and a default privacy setting of friends only.

I would be interested in being co-mod; I have a fair bit of experience, having modded blackberry_users and ljgenie over on LJ for about ... 6 months and a year respectively, I believe.

I agree with posting triggers behind a cut, as well as forbidding ableist/discriminatory languages. I don't think posts should be moderated, but I'd like if they were friends-only by default.

OK, it looks like a default friends-only setting with unmoderated posting is the general preference. I'll have a rules post up soon, hopefully by this time tomorrow.

I think there may be suggestions on more accessible default layouts. Perhaps ask around? I know there are layout specific communities.
